The 3.5 inch SATA drive is the default choice for desktops, tower servers, NAS enclosures and video recorders. Within that single physical and electrical standard the drives differ sharply in workload rating, vibration tolerance and firmware behaviour, which is what separates a desktop model from a NAS or surveillance model.
